Following on from last week's blog entry this time we introduce Becca. Founding member of the Book Lovers Family. Here are some bookish questions and answers by way of introduction.
What was the first book you read?
My very first book was Matilda by Roald Dahl. I have a very vivid memory of my dad taking me to the book shop to buy it for me after my teacher started to read it to us in class. I remember wanting to learn to read so much so I could find out what happened and not have to wait for my teacher or dad to read it for me.
What is Your favourite book?
This is a tough one! My favourite book would have to be Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. Elizabeth Bennet is my role model! She is such a strong, witty character that does not take s**t from anyone (no matter their yearly income!) I feel like this book has it all; comedy provided by Mr Collins, the exploits of the bad boy Mr Wickham and of course the romance from Mr Darcy himself.
Who is your favourite author?
My favourite author is Daphne Du Maurier. I love all of her books, from the haunting story of Rebecca to the tragic Scapegoat. Though often described as a romantic writer, there is always something so sinister and compelling about her stories. I also love the time they are set in and enjoy being whisked away to English manor houses with embroidered handkerchiefs and rose gardens. Escapism at its best!
What was the last book you read?
I read The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson after struggling through the Netflix adaptation. I hated the show (though I seem to be a minority) but loved the book. I felt genuinely scared - something I have not experienced since reading Stephen King or Point Horror books as a teenager! I recommend reading it late at night.
